Turn Around Jonny Lang!
When I came to the Maryport Blues Festival stage to see Jonny Lang, all I could see were roughly 20 senior citizens hanging out and eating sausages. Good thing is, by the time Jonny’s gig started, there were 400+ people and I had the perfect spot in the front row.
Below are some pictures of a concert of my favorite singer, Jonny Lang. I “discovered” him when I lived in Bavaria, I was very love-sick, and my friend Susanne played me a few of his songs. I think Jonny was 16 at the time, but he had a voice like a 40-year-old Blues veteran.
Even though I appreciate lots of singer-songwriters now and my current rotation keeps changing, Jonny Lang is always on top of my list (ok, I’m what people call a “fan”).
At Maryport, I was first underwhelmed because in the concert tent there were roughly 20 senior citizens hanging out and eating sausages. Good thing is, by the time Jonny’s gig started, there were 400+ people and I had the perfect spot in the front row. Amazing concert, it was worth the 6 hours drive from Cambridge. I guess my favorite songs are still “Breakin’ me” from the album Wander This World and “Missing your love” from the album Lie To Me, but Jonny has some more recent tunes on his setlist like “Turn Around” that really rock. His recent songs are bit less blues-y and more gospel-ish. But that’s ok, I’ll love any song by him because of his voice and charisma.
Before Maryport I saw Jonny in a casino in Atlantic City in 2006, where Science Boy caught a plectrum for me that Jonny threw in the audience.
When will be the next tour in Europe, does anyone know?
